US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, visiting "Old Europe" in Munich, Germany came out against a German proposal to create a trans-Atlantic rival to NATO to coordinate and develop policy among alliance nations. He declared NATO to be very much alive and relevant said that the U.S.-European alliance could withstand its current differences over the Bush administration's decision to wage war in Iraq. |
