Lawyers for eight active duty soldiers today sue US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other senior military officials and are asking to be immediately released from military service, declaring that they have fulfilled their contracts. Because the Pentagon underestimated the resolve of the insurgency, they have implemented a "stop loss" policy in which tens of thousands of soldiers who have completed their volunteer service commitment are prevented from leaving. |
