At Camp Buehring in Kuwait, Army Spc. Thomas Wilson of the Tennessee National Guard and 278th Regimental Combat Team asks US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld "Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to uparmor our vehicles?'' After a cheer went up from the crowd, Rumsfeld asked the soldier to repeat his question and then responded with "You go to war with the Army you have. You can have all the armor in the world on a tank and it can (still) be blown up.'' |
