U.S. President Bush responds to Pope John Paul II's request that "the situation in Iraq be normalised quickly as possible with the active participation of the international community" by telling the pontiff he would work for "human liberty and human dignity". Mr Bush presented the Pope with the American Medal of Freedom, calling him a "son of Poland who became the Bishop of Rome and a hero of our time". |
