Turkish troops under Suleiman the magnificent occupy the Greek island of Rhodes (Rhodos). The few remaining Knights of the Order of St. John fled to Malta. The Rhodes city walls constructed the Knights had withstood the attacks of the Sultan of Egypt in 1444 and of Mohamed II in1480. |
