British forces capture the town of Augusta, Georgia.
1791
Thomas Paine completes his work "The Rights of Man" as a reply to "Reflections on the Revolution in France" by Edmund Burke. In it, Paine clearly documents three points similar to the "self-evident truths" that are cited in Jefferson's US Declaration of Independence.

King George III of Britain, dies after a reign of almost 60 years. It is the second longest in British history and his is replaced by George IV, King George's II the third son.
